Prof. Song Ci: PhD, Director

Dr Song Ci is an associate professor of computer and electronics engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is the director of Intelligent Ubiquitous Computing Lab (iUbiComp Lab) and holds a courtesy appointment of UNL Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering Program. He is also affiliated with Nebraska Biomechanics Core Facility at University of Nebraska at Omaha and Center for Advanced Surgical Technology (CAST) at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE. His research interests include: dynamic complex system modeling and optimization, green computing and power management, dynamically reconfigurable embedded system, content-aware quality-driven cross-layer optimized multimedia over wireless, cognitive network management and service-oriented architecture, and cyber-enable e-healthcare.

He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT) and serves as Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia Special Issue on Quality-Driven Cross-Layer Design for Multimedia Communications, Guest Editor of IEEE Network Magazine Special Issue on Wireless Mesh Networks: Applications, Architectures and Protocols, and Associate Editor of four other international journals. He serves as the TPC co-chair of IEEE ICCCN 2009 and as the TPC member for numerous conferences. He is the Vice Chair of Computer Society of IEEE Nebraska Section, Senior Member of the IEEE, and Member of the ACM and the ASHRAE. He is the SIG chair of Quality-Driven Cross-Layer Design of the Multimedia Communications Technical Committee (MMTC) of the IEEE Communications Society (COMSOC).

Dr Nam Tran Nguyen: PhD, Research Scientist

Nam Tran Nguyen (Nguyen N. Tran) received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications from Ho-Chi-Minh City University of Technology in 2001, the M.S.E. degree in Physical Electronics from Ho-Chi-Minh City University of Natural Sciences in 2004 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 2009. He is now a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA.

He has held visiting appointments at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Houston, TX, USA and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. His research interests are MIMO, MIMO-OFDM, cooperative relaying, and cross-layer optimized multimedia communications, including coding and signal processing techniques, cross-layer design for video transmission over MIMO wireless multi-hop networks, and applications of convex optimization for training signal and precoder design under correlated channels and colored noise.

Dalei Wu: PhD Student

Mr. Dalei Wu received his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from Shandong University, Jinan, China, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, USA. His adviser is Dr. Song Ci.

He was a research assistant with the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, during the winter of 2004. From 2004 to 2005, he was a member of WiMAX Technical Staff with ZTE Telecom Corporation, China. From 2005 to 2006, he worked as a research assistant with the Department of Computer Science, the University of Massachusetts Boston.

His research interests include wireless communications and networking, multimedia processing and communications, dynamic complex system modeling and optimization, green computing, and biomedical computing.

Jiucai Zhang: PhD Student

Mr. Jiucai Zhang is a PhD student of the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has been a research assistant since he was admitted in spring 2007. His adviser is Dr Song Ci.

Previously, he worked for College of Information and Communication Engineering, North University of China as a lecturer. He holds a degree of master from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, supervised by Wenxiang Wang.

Under the advising of Dr Song Ci, his current research includes Green Computing, and Battery Power Management, Dynamically Reconfigurable Embedded System Optimization, Large-scale Dynamic Complex System Modeling and Optimization, and Cyber-enabled E-healthcare.

Haiyan Luo: PhD Student

Mr. Haiyan Luo is a PhD student of the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has been a teaching assistant since he was admitted in 2007. In the summers of 2007, 2008 and 2009, he worked in the iUbiComp Lab as a research assistant. His adviser is Dr Song Ci.

Previously, he worked for Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies as a Member of Technical Staff (senior software engineer, team leader). He holds a degree of master from the Department of Computer Science at Dalian University of Technology, supervised by Xiukun Wang. His research direction was distributed database and network security.

Under the advising of Dr Song Ci, his current research includes Video Content Analysis, Wireless Mesh Networks, P2P Networks, TCP Friendly Rate Control, Cross-layer Networks, Embedded Systems, Wireless Sensor Networks, Distributed Systems, Context-aware services etc.

Xueyi Wang: PhD Student

Mr.Wang received his B.S. degree majored in Automation from Southeast University (Nanjing, China). He received his M.S. degree majored in Communication and Information System from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing, China). He has been a research assistant in Department of Computer and Electronic Engineering of University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2008. His advisor is Dr. Song Ci.

His research interests include software and hardware design for Embeded System, cyber-physical system (CPS) and WSN.

Jianxin Sun: PhD Student

Mr. Jianxin Sun received his B.S degrees in Electronic and Information Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China, in 2008. He is now pursuing Ph.D. degree in the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), Lincoln, U.S.. His current adviser is Dr. Song Ci.

His previous projects include Mixed-Mode Circuits Design and its application, High-Performance in DSP Hardware Architectures. His current project is Advanced dVSS simulator for surgeon training and operation. His research interests force on Wireless Sensor Network and Sensor Deployment.

Yun Ye: PhD Student

Ms. Ye is a PhD student of the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has been a research assistant since she was admitted in fall 2009. Her adviser is Dr Song Ci.

She holds a degree of master from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, supervised by Dr Xinghao Jiang. Her research direction was video watermarking. Under the advising of Dr Song Ci, her current research includes multimedia signal processing in sensor network.

Wei An: PhD Student

Wei AN received his Master degree in Applied Mathematics from School of Science, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China, in 2008. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree at school of Information Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology. Now he is under the advising of Dr Song Ci in the Department of Computer & Electronics Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, from Sept. 2009 as a Joint Ph.D. Candidate. His research interests include wireless sensor network and complex systems.

Chunxiao Ren: PhD Student

Chunxiao Ren received his B.Eng. degree in computer science and technology from Shandong University, China, in 2001. During 2001-2003, he worked with Luneng Software Ltd., Shandong, China, as a software engineer. He received the M.S.E. degree in software engineering from Shandong University Qilu Software College in 2007. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree at Shandong University. Now he is with the Department of Computer & Electronics Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, from Sept. 2009 as a Joint Ph.D. Candidate. His research interests include pattern recognition, machine learning, image processing and wireless networks.
